Robotics Challenges Try a new robotics challenge each week. In small group teams, kids will receive the challenge, brainstorm a design, build, test and modify. The class ends with a fun competition. Who can beat the challenge, and who can do it most creatively? This can be one class or a 3-week series of classes. Kids build the Flex chassis the first week, then add on a 4-bar linkage for a more comprehensive learning experience. Ages: 8-18 Mondays 4:00-6:00 PM (For example, Oct 15, Oct 22, Oct 29) Weekly Challenge Possibilities October 15 Maze Races (chassis) October 22 High Rise (tower) October 29 Tug of War (gear ratio) Take a Look at our Kids in Action! Kids Coding World Challenges We bring our robots or laptops to a library near you! A new challenge each week! Cozmo Programming Cozmo robots are coming to the library. We will introduce basic programming concepts with Cozmo and block programming. Students will program Cozmo to use facial recognition, text to speech, choreograph movement and animations. The group will explore remote driving with camera assist, tricks and games. Sphero Programming Sphero is a rolling robot you control from your phone or iPad. But more than playing with a fun remote control toy, you will be programming the Sphero to drive your chariot through a maze, racing against human and computer driven opponents! Can you meet the challenge? Can you add a crazy, colorful light show to your chariot with your new coding skills? What else will your team dream up? More than an introduction, this 3-week class will build on the skills of the previous weeks for a more comprehensive learning experience. April 15 Maze Run (roll, set color, delay, sound) April 22 Olympic Games (on collision, variables, jump) April 29 Minute to Win It! (speak, spin, loops) (SAMPLE DATES ONLY) Computer Programming We will be building Scratch projects around Star Wars themes (although characters can easily come from Disney themes or other characters). New and returning students welcome. New projects will be introduced each week and there will be time to work on student’s own projects. We also build classes around code.org, App Lab, and Khan Academy Intro to JavaScript. |
Pay It Forward Campaign
PAY IT FORWARD...Direct Donation Click to donate. (Choose the quantity of $1 donations - a little weird but that way you can choose your amount.) |
Ralphs is a big supporter of local community organizations. We thank all of you who have connected your Ralphs card to MATHmania Robotics. This supports our Pay It Forward programming. We hope to bring even more of these programs to Orange County this year.
To start Paying It Forward, go to www.ralphs.com. Click on Welcome, and sign in. Once you are signed in: Click on your name in the upper right, click on Account, Community Rewards, Participant, click on ‘Enroll Now’. Type in math and then choose MATHmania Robotics. It's that simple and it will show you how much you donated last quarter just by shopping at Ralphs. Pretty cool! We appreciate so much your help in bringing these unique programs to the kids in our community. Ralphs requires that we all choose who to support each September, so remember to renew each year. |
